At O'Brien's Moving & Storage, our expert local movers have been serving the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas since 1928.During this time, we've built a solid reputation as a high quality local moving and storage company – a reputation that we are are proud of and diligently hold onto by providing superior service for our customers.
Pennsylvania is no longer a fully regulated state as the “need” requirement was eliminated by the Public Utility Commission (P.U.C.) in 2015. Prior to 2015, movers had to have “rights” to move you within a particular area, and any new potential mover had to prove there was a need for an additional mover within that particular area. However, all movers are still required to file their tariff rates, must abide by that tariff as to what they charge for their services, and all movers must have their PUC License number visible on all advertising and paperwork.
Local Moving Information
Pricing is based on an hourly rate. You will initial the Bill of Lading when the local movers arrive and then again when the move is completed. These total hours, less any time off for lunch, plus the travel charge will be the total charges for your move. Just a reminder: Travel time is based on the distance between origin and destination; it is not based on the distance from the local mover's warehouse to your place of origin. Therefore, it does not matter how close or far away the mover is to your origin home.
All estimates are non-binding in Pennsylvania. All local movers are required to charge you for the actual time and services provided, regardless of any estimates you may receive. This is why O'Brien's Moving and Storage always completes an in-home walk thru to provide you with an actual, written estimate.
Intrastate Moving Information
Intrastate moves are over 40 miles from origin to destination within Pennsylvania. These moves must be priced by weight and miles through a published tariff with the P.U.C.
Before the truck arrives at origin, the driver will weigh the truck empty at a certified scale location. This is the light weight of your shipment. After the truck is loaded, the driver will re-weigh the truck. This second weight is the heavy weight of your shipment. When the two weights are subtracted, you get the net weight of your shipment. This is the weight that your actual charges will be based upon.
In Pennsylvania, all intrastate movers are required to charge you based on the actual, not the estimated weights and services provided, regardless of any estimates you may receive. This is why O'Brien's Moving and Storage always completes an in-home walk thru to provide you with an actual, written estimate.
Packing Services
Packing services are available for local and intrastate moves. These rates are also part of the tariff published by the Pennsylvania P.U.C.
