O’Brien’s Moving & Storage began recycling way back in 2005, and has increased our quantity, with over 56 tons recycled in 2024 alone!

What We Recycle

We initially started recycling by purchasing a huge “bailer,” to compact our moving boxes and paper into bails that we then banded to prepare them to be accepted at the recycling center. With all the moves we do each year, recycling the cardboard sure has saved a bunch of trees! We also started asking our customers to give us back any boxes and paper that they did not want, once they unpacked, even if it means coming back after the move. We then resell these used boxes at a reduced price.

O’Brien’s Moving & Storage also recycles all paper products. This includes paper we use in packing, paper pads, and any office paper (which is a lot, as moving company paperwork is quite extensive). We also recycle all stretch wrap used for protecting items such as sofas, mattress bags, plastic and aluminum bottles and containers, along with plastic kitchen utensils.

Finally, we recycle light mixed metals. This includes auto parts, commercial fixtures, decommissioned kitchen fixtures, and desks and filing cabinets. Desks and filing cabinets are the largest part of this, and we decided it was much better to recycle these items on commercial moves where the customer is disposing of them, versus taking them to the dump. O’Brien’s Moving & Storage recycled almost 45 tons of mixed metals in 2024 alone!
