Bristol Township is located in southern Bucks County and is one of the largest townships in Pennsylvania, with a population of almost 54,000 residents. A big reason for the township’s population is its location at the junction of 3 major highways, Interstate – 95, the PA Turnpike (Interstate – 276), and Interstate – 295.
Fun Things to Do in Bristol Township
There are several truly unique things in Bristol Township:
- Silver Lake Nature Center: Silver Lake was manmade as a pond in 1689. The 235–acre complex is a natural treasure with lush foliage, wetlands, and woodlands abound. Forty-three rare and threatened animal and plant species find refuge here (Species of Special Concern). There are 4.5 miles of nature trails that route through the various habitats, an auditorium exhibit room, a 660–person amphitheater designed for campfires and shows, a reference library, and a gift shop. The function of the center is to educate and promote the preservation and research of natural heritage and creatures that inhabit it, and to enjoy the outdoors in an environmentally friendly manner. We need more places like the Sliver Creek Nature Center.
- Croydon Woods Nature Preserve: The 80–acre forested property is one of the few remaining coastal plain forests in the state of Pennsylvania. Located very near the Delaware River, Croydon Woods Nature Preserve is a publicly accessible green space sorely needed in populous Bucks County. Many mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians inhabit the forest, along with a stop for migrating birds. A nearby school that works very closely with the center has a Motus Wildlife Tracking Tower (MOTUS), an international collaborative research network that uses coordinated automated radio telemetry to facilitate research and educate on the ecology and conservation of migratory animals.
- Bristol Amish Market: Wildly popular, due to its array of unique Amish shops and stores:
- Bristol Barbeque.: The aroma of rotisserie chicken and sides is incredible.
- Mary’s Gourmet Doughnuts: Over 30 different types, all made from scratch and hand–rolled.
- Dutch County Bakery: Huge variety of baked goods. Gluten-free and sugar-free options are available.
- King’s Pretzels & Ice Cream: Offers a variety of fresh, hand–rolled soft pretzels glazed with butter. The log pretzels are filled with 8 varieties of meats and cheeses.
- Pistol Pete’s Seafood: Large assortment of fresh, prepared, and cooked seafood. Home of the famous salmon burger. Plethora of platters, catering, shrimp, and hors d’oeuvre trays.
- Best Darn Kettlecorn: 29 varieties of kettlecorn and other gourmet varieties. Dozens of flavors are built from award-winning kettle corn.
- Stoltzfus Country Deli: Homemade meats and cheeses that are all aged over 60 days, pickles, red beet eggs, cole slaw, and 3 incredible potato salads. Amish food at its finest.
- Riverview Outdoor Products: Beautiful, Amish–crafted pergolas, gazebos, sheds, outdoor furniture, swing sets, pet shelters, and more. All are handmade and of the finest quality.
- Amish Furniture of Bristol: Hardwood furniture built to last a lifetime. The Amish use tried and true furniture-making techniques built from native oak, quarter-sawn white oak, hickory, walnut, and more.
