The Pocono Mountains are a great year-round destination for travelers. However, the winter season, highlighted by the Christmas and New Year’s holidays is when this region explodes. Ski season begins, and by December 14th all 6 ski resorts in the Pocono Mountains will be open for business, and all of them invested heavily in major upgrades and improvements.
- Blue Mountain Resort has a new groomer and enhanced technology, which has increased opening-day snow production. Both Blue Mountain and Camelback Ski Resorts are offering a new rewards program for seasonal pass holders, featuring unlimited ski and lift access. Camelback also has become the 1st resort in the United States to offer “Just Walk Out” technology, using only an app or credit card.
- Jack Frost and Big Boulder Ski Resort introduced new energy-efficient snow guns, which increase resource efficiency. Big Boulder also added new LED slope lights on its beginner terrace, which greatly increased the nighttime visibility and decreased the energy needed to run it.
- Shawnee Mountain Ski Area also followed the theme of renewable energy through wind energy and upgraded its energy-efficient snow-making equipment. They also introduced a 3rd and 4th Grade Pass, so accompanied by a paid adult ticket, kids can receive 3 complimentary ski and snowboard visits.
- Big Bear introduced new and updated snow equipment to increase their snow-making capabilities and to lay it down faster. They also added a new line of Rossignol skis and snowboards for rentals.
- Also, 2 towns in the Pocono Mountains were named to Architectural Digest’s list of “95 Best Winter Wonderland Destinations in the United States”; the only 2 in Pennsylvania to make the list. Tannersville, home to Camelback Resort, Big Pocono State Park – which sits on the summit of Camelback and its slopes and offers 360-degree panoramic views across New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, and nearby Great Wolf Lodge. Wondrous Lake Harmony’s landscape is comprised of clean, glacial lakes, gently rolling hills, and lush forests, and features state parks, Split Rock Resort, Jack Frost Big Boulder Ski Resorts, and much more.
- Finally, Visit PA named 4 Pocono Mountain Resorts among the “7 Top Pennsylvania Resorts for a Magical Christmas and New Year’s Getaway:” Skytop Lodge, Great Wolf Lodge, Kalahari Resorts, and Camel Resort. Each resort is unique in what they offer, but all cater to the holiday season.
The Pocono Mountains are extremely popular for obvious reasons, including the fact that they are within proximity to the states of New York, New Jersey, and New York City.
