Come and spend a day exploring the historic Fonthill Castle, the product of Henry Mercer’s “unique architectural and artistic vision.” Mercer was an “archaeologist, anthropologist, ceramist, scholar and antiquarian. Mercer built Fonthill both as his home and as a showplace for his collection of tiles and prints,” according to the castle museum’s website.

This castle took four years to complete and boasts 44 rooms, 10 bathrooms, and 18 fireplaces. Mercer also gathered almost 30,000 unique items that showed historic American life which are now displayed in the Mercer Museum on the same property. 2.  Kids’ Castle

Want to see another castle with the kids? Take them to play at the eight story wooden playground structure call the Kids’ Castle, also located in Doylestown, PA. This unique playground was designed and named by children of Doylestown Township through an art contest in 1996. “Thanks to the efforts of over three thousand dedicated volunteers and the generosity of numerous sponsors, Kids Castle became a reality on Sunday, June 22, 1997,” according to the playground’s website.

3.  Sand Castle Winery

For a more “adult” castle experience, take time to stop at the beautiful Sand Castle Winery, which offers a variety of tasting and tour experiences, ranging from on-the-hour walk-in tastings to extensive wine-and-dine pairing sessions.
