Mount Laurel has a long and rich history that dates to the 16th century, including how Mount Laurel got its name. The “Site of the Mount” is a hill that rests on 300 acres of land at the crossroads of Hainesport-Mount Laurel and Moorestown-Laurel roads. The hill is plush with “laurel,” hence the name.

In its early history, the Lenne-Lenape Indians had farming and hunting villages along the Rancocas River. The “Great Road” was first laid out in 1765 along this Indian trail. When the road was being built, many Indian tools were found along the way, and today part of this “Great Road” is known as the Hainesport-Mount Laurel Road.
Mount Laurel had many farms and continued its mostly rural existence until 1962, when the first of many Mount Laurel housing developments, Ramblewood, began the build-out of the town. Today, Mount Laurel has a total population of over 44,600, which is the largest count in its history, with an increase of almost 7% since the last U.S. Census count. It is also a very high-income area with an annual average household income of over $136,000.
Mount Laurel is a truly beautiful, must-see area. Laurel Acres contains a Veterans Memorial, several soccer fields and a baseball field, a fishing lake, and a large hill that is used for concerts and sledding in the winter. Ramblewood Country Club is a spectacular, 27-hole golf course that is open year-round and is one of New Jersey’s most popular courses.
